SAMAST

The SA.MAST Animal Clinic Team is assisting the Department of Agriculture to vaccinate as many cats and dogs as possible against the deadly zoonotic disease. The vaccine, needles and syringes for this specific outreach is being supplied by the DoA.

We have been told both infected dogs were traced back to the very large Makhaya area in Khayelitsha, however it's still a mystery as to how two dogs, one allegedly from Khayelitsha and one from Delft, both became infected in Makhaya.

Should a total rabies outbreak in Khayelitsha ever actually take place though, it would be everyone's worst nightmare.

SAMAST

It would spread like wildfire, beyond the borders of Khayelitsha, leaving a trail of unimaginable devastation, heartbreak and suffering in its wake

SA.MAST has once again requested that the DoA supply not only the vaccine, but also the needles and syringes too to carry out their vaccination programme at our clinic and hospital – a programme we have for many years been conducting on their behalf and which the DoA is mandated to provide.  We are hoping for a  positive response.

But the vaccine, needles and syringes are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the resources needed to keep up with this and our other zoonotic disease prevention work.

SAMAST

I am calling on everyone -
Foundations, Trusts, Companies and Individuals
- to support SA.MAST.

Please help us to keep everyone as safe as possible.

Every effort MUST be made to keep rabies out of the Western Cape.

DID YOU KNOW?

It's estimated that up to 60 000 people world-wide die of rabies?

Both KZN and Gauteng have a very long history of government funded cat and dog sterilisation and vaccination programmes taking place in multiple hotspot areas at the same time and the Western Cape doesn't?

While SA.MAST does not receive any financial support from government, we and our free mass sterilisation (animal birth control) and primary treatment programmes is the most effective intervention Khayelitsha actually has against a rabies outbreak?

WHAT WE DO NOW WILL DICTATE WHAT HAPPENS IN THE DAYS TO FOLLOW.

Thank you.
