Once all our fantastic kennel builders had downed their tools, we sprang into action delivering the beautifully decorated kennels to our four-legged friends in Khayelitsha. Providing them with a roof and four walls for the first time in their lives was a richly rewarding experience, with big smiles and wagging tails all around.

NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED!
At the end of our first successful day of kennel distribution, disaster struck. Vusi, our Senior Community Liaison Officer who has his driver's license, was involved in an accident with an unlicensed vehicle and driver in Khayelitsha. Thankfully Vusi escaped serious injury, but our vehicle was a write-off.
The accident has dealt a crushing blow to our Sterilisation and Emergency Medical Assist Programme and we're in crisis!
Our insurers are paying us out the book value of the car even though we insured it for the retail/replacement value and because the vehicle was financed we now don't have enough left to buy another one.

SAVING THE DAY:
Your beautiful kennels have all been delivered!
INL came to our rescue after our vehicle was written off and loaned us a truck! And so, we managed to keep going and have delivered most of the kennels already.
Out with the old and in with a new running wire, waterproof kennel cushion and shelter...
Thanks to your participation in our 4th Spring Fun Kennel Build Day, hundreds of our four-legged friends who have already been sterilised (or are scheduled to be sterilised) now have a soft and dry place to lay their heads. A better life for all indeed!

WONDERING WHAT HAPPENED TO THE REMAINDER OF THE KENNEL KITS?
Pet guardians in Khayelitsha also got a chance to work up a sweat and get their hands dirty. Our Clinic has been a hive of activity as young and old alike roll up their sleeves and construct kennels, which are carted away in trolleys or precariously balanced on the roofs of jalopies. It's been wonderful to witness their enthusiasm and dedication to improving the living standards of their pets.

OUR WORK NEVER ENDS:
We often risk life and limb to deliver free shelter, emergency medical assist, primary care and sterilisation services to the multitudes of animals in Khayelitsha. Our delivery rounds in just the last week have led us to a newborn kitten abandoned in the long, wet grass, a mommy cat with gruesome and infected burn wounds, diseased and starving dogs with their pups – the list goes on. But we are so very grateful for your support and for allowing us to be in a position to go where few others will. Thank you too to Aniwell South Africa, Raise 'n Rescue, Stellenbosch Animal Welfare and DARG for taking in some of our rescues for foster care, rehabilitation and re-homing – don't worry we always pay the bill!
|
A million thanks go out to all our supporters who contributed
towards the building of the kennels.
Without you all this would not have been possible.
Many thanks!
