Put your paws together for our
500 fantastic volunteers!
|
This Spring Day, Saturday the 1st of September, SA.MAST held our third annual Spring Fun and Kennel Building Day
at the Academy of Math and Science in Constantia. By all accounts the day was a howling success, thanks to the 500+ volunteers who came along with hammers, smiles and plenty of enthusiasm.
88 kennels were built and beautifully decorated in record time at the event
(13 kennels were built by volunteers before and after the event too)
and we raised a total of R31304.68 through sales, entrance fees and
generous donations, enough to sterilise and treat an extra
104 Khayelitsha patients! Approximately R10 000 in pet food and
products were donated too!
Next year, we will make sure there is enough wood for 200 kennels….

"The SA.MAST kennel building day was a fantastic opportunity to extend the Pam Golding Properties' Joy of Giving initiative. The response to all the media was outstanding with 101 kennels built in total and all the wood exhausted in the first hour and a quarter. What remained of the day was a huge amount of fun painting the kennels as creatively as possible. No doubt the prizes for the best built and painted kennels drove the crowds to take time, effort and creativity especially with their painting.
We are delighted to have partnered with SA.MAST on this event and so proud to have been part of the opportunity to give back to such a worthy cause."
-Howard Markham, Southern Suburbs Branch Manager, Pam Golding Properties.
It was a crazy day of noisy banging and kennel construction, delicious food, fantastic entertainment, sawdust-covered faces, paint-splattered clothes and a real sense of camaraderie.

HOME SWEET HOME
SA.MAST would like to take this opportunity to give a heartfelt thank you to each and every person who participated in the day
– our team of volunteers who sawed wood, assisted with the stalls, collected donations and provided their assistance wherever it was needed; the members of the public who came along who built and painted the beautiful, life-saving kennels; our wonderful sponsors Pennypinchers, Ryobi, Dulux, MyPlanet, Glaceau and of course the main sponsor of the event, Pam Golding Properties.
Please know that every single one of you had a hand in making life a lot more comfortable for at least 101 Khayelitsha dogs, possibly even saving some canine lives over the next few hot summers and cold and wet winters to come.

We will be sending out two more newsletters, each of which will show you 'before' and 'after' photos of each kennel delivery so that all our volunteer kennel-builders can see where their kennel went. Remember, every single dog or puppy (except for one very sad and frustrating case, more on that later…) who has received a kennel, will be or has already been sterilised at our clinic.

We are busy compiling a print ready CD of all the photos for you to buy at R75 each! Amazingly talented photographer, Denis Jouglet, took many exceptional photos at the event and has also so very kindly captured the entire kennel delivery process, a mammoth but very rewarding task! Included in the CD are bonus photos taken by SA.MAST Ambassador, renowned author and travel writer, Fransje van Riel.
All proceeds will go towards our mass animal sterilisation, primary treatment and medical emergency assist programme. To place your order, please email samast@samast.co.za. PLEASE indicate how many copies you require and give your name, telephone number, postal and email address. We will email you back with payment options.
