Between February 2009 and June 2016, SA.MAST has spent over
R700 000 on petrol to collect and then return over
11 000 sterilisation patients to their homes
in Khayelitsha. In addition to conducting the largest, most focused, area specific mass sterilisation campaign in the world, we have also collected and returned 1000's of patients needing emergency medical treatment.
99% of this fuel has been purchased using our garage card at petrol stations in Khayelitsha.
In 2010 we asked Engen for help, and were refused out of hand.
In April 2016 we asked for help again, this time to BP and Engen.
BP dismissed the request almost immediately.
Engen took two months to do it.
Our attempts to educate BP and Engen on the massive role we are playing in the urban renewal and rehabilitation of Khayelitsha, including substantial contributions towards the improved health & safety of residents and an environment that supports township tourism and small business development, has fallen on deaf ears.

THEIR REFUSAL LETTER
As an enlightened consumer, please feel free to be pro-active.
The overall message contained in their generic refusal letters:
The work we do and the patronage they have received is of little to no value to Engen or BP and not a single tank of fuel will be sponsored. Not one.
We wonder how many of their South African employees, such as their office cleaners, cashiers and petrol pump attendants live in Khayelitsha and how many of these people and their families have been directly or indirectly helped by SA.MAST?
CALTEX
Can you spare a few tanks of fuel?
Will you help us cross the finishing line of this massive campaign by supplying some of the fuel we need to collect and return 2000 patients?
An unprecedented 80% sterilisation coverage rate for this massive area can be reached by the end of 2016… if you decide to be a South African Hero.
Sincerely, Tamsin & the SA.MAST Team
