DID YOU KNOW…

ANIMAL WELFARE IS NOT ALL ABOUT THE ANIMALS?

Zoonosis are diseases and infections that are transferable from affected animals to humans.
Covid-19 is a zoonotic infection.

The free and consistent SA.MAST mass animal sterilisation and primary treatment programme in Khayelitsha prevents animal overpopulation, neglect and the spread of zoonotic conditions.

Examples of zoonosis in cats or dogs are parasites such as roundworm, whipworm, hookworm and tapeworm or Sarcoptes mites that burrow beneath the skin and lay their eggs.

As an in-township organisation providing hundreds of effective veterinary interventions every week, including the curing of zoonotic conditions, we are delivering a variety of supportive services which is essential for many of the City of Cape Town’s focus areas, including its Health Department.

"To ensure the City of Cape Town will be a healthier city with adequate and equitable distribution of resources to render quality, comprehensive, cost-effective primary health care services. This will be achieved through a district health system with a committed and dynamic workforce supported by strong, competent shared leadership with collaboration and commitment from the community and other partners."

Dr Paul Nkurunziza
Acting Director: City Health
