activity report Feb 09 – 7 April 2010

1169 sterilisations and primary treatments were funded at our clinic during this period, including the patient’s collection and return, their vaccination, inoculation, de-worming and tick and flea treatment. Hundreds of thousands of Khayelitsha residents do not have access to transport, therefore it is essential that we drive into the settlement areas, most of which have no roads or road signs, identify, collect, sterilise, treat and return the patients!

What else did we do?
  • 738 home visits to assist pet guardians and share general knowledge on caring for their pets.

  • Built and collected over fifty kennels which were given for free to needy pet guardians

  • Given for free, hundreds of pet care products and about four tons of food to needy pet guardians

  • Rescued and re-homed 64 neglected or abandoned cats and dogs from Khayelitsha.

  • Dipped for free, approximately 1750 additional dogs who were dipped at their homes or brought to our clinic by the pet guardians

  • Dewormed an additional 312 cats and dogs (for free too) who were brought to our clinic by their guardians or who were treated at their homes.

  • Many disadvantaged pet guardians were also assisted in getting free emergency medical treatment for their cat or dog.

A VERY SINCERE THANK YOU

We would like to thank the following sponsors (HERO'S actually) for the installation of our wonderful bathroom and conversion of our second shipping container.

Obviously we are very excited and extremely grateful for our flush toilet! Aletha Howe kick started everything and Jacqui Wessels of Collaboration ‘collaborated’ with Sanmar Contractors, Drips Plumbing, Modern Bathrooms, Albert Carpets and Wall-Erect Systems to not only provide us with our porcelain throne, but a shower and basin too. They even went one step further and handed to us, on a silver platter, the most awesome plumber. Max of Ubuntu Repairs did the entire installation for us perfectly and in record time! You can reach Max on 021 552 0375 or 082 515 3609. We would also like to thank Georgie and John Vass for donating a brand new geyser - an essential item for a bathroom wouldn't you say?

Of course the conversion of our new shipping container, which now also includes a quarantine room, would not have been complete if Nico Kruger (electrician) had not volunteered his outstanding services and ARB Holdings had not donated all the electrical thingamajigs and very expensive underground cabling. Last but not least, thanks must also go to Wall-Erect Systems (again) for supplying the treated wooden divisions and CDI Construction for donating the doors, door frames and sink.

Sorry, one last thank-you must go to two very special men and three very special ladies.
To Jirk Nel for always being the ultimate project manager & handy man , to Max Guedy of Agency Zebra for keeping us on-line, up-to-date and accessible on the world wide web, to Ronnie Cooper for all the really, really important independent administrative and accounting services, to Nikki Botha for always fighting the good fight and encouraging SA.MAST to do the same and to Fransje van Riel for being such a graceful and generous ambassador - thank-you all for being so selfless and helping to saving the future.
